what is invisalign?

UNDERSTANDING INVISALIGN TREATMENT

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Unlike metal braces, which use brackets and wires to move teeth, Invisalign aligners are made of a clear plastic material that is virtually invisible when worn. And the best part? They can be removed for eating and brushing.

how long does it take?

LENGTH OF INVISALIGN TREATMENT

Depending on the complexity of the case (how severe the crowding is), InvisAlign treatment can take as little as 6 months. More complex cases can take anywhere from 12 months to 18 months to 24 months. It really all depends on the particulars of the case, the patient's goals, and his or her commitment to consistently wearing the aligners.

what do i need to know?

RULES FOR INVISALIGN SUCCESS

The success of InvisAlign treatment relies heavily on the patient's commitment to wearing their aligners consistently, for at least 22 hours per day to ensure that the treatment is effective. Additionally, the patient must commit to visiting our office as often as once per month. At the end of treatment, it is crucial that the patient commits to wearing their retainers. There are different kinds of retainers, but the most important thing is that they be wor. The length of time that a patient must wear a dental retainer can vary depending on the individual case. Some patients may need to wear their retainer for several months, while others may need to wear it indefinitely to prevent their teeth from shifting.

how does it work?

The process of getting Invisalign treatment typically begins with a consultation at our office. Dr. Borges will assess the patient's oral health and determine if they are a candidate for Invisalign. If the patient is a candidate, we'll then take digital images and scans or impressions of the patient's teeth and create a customized treatment plan. These images and 3D models are then sent to InvisAlign, who will create a digital rendering of the proposed treatment and the possible treatment outcome.

In a second appointment the patient will view the 3D rendering created by InvisAlign. This rendering shows the patient how their teeth will shift during the course of treatment and what the final outcome should be. When the patient approves this rendering, called the ClinCheck, the office will tell InvisAlign to proceed.

The Invisalign aligners are then fabricated at InvisAlign's lab, using advanced computer imaging technology. This process usually takes 3-4 weeks. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually shift the teeth into the desired position, and the patient will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before switching to the next set.

Throughout the treatment process, the patient will visit our office periodically (usually once per month) to ensure that the treatment is progressing as planned. In some cases, Dr. Borges may make adjustments to the treatment plan to achieve the best possible results.
